Look straight up above the spiral staircase in the middle of the Old State Capitol to see the massive stained-glass dome. Photos (c) 2015 by Chad Hebert Mark Twain loathed it. However, I would still recommend taking some time to visit Louisiana's Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge (100 North Blvd.). The castle-like former state capitol was built in the 1800s and housed Louisiana government until the current capitol was built in the early 20th century.
